2007 UDSDF Scholarships PRINT PAGE
The Upper Dublin Swimming and Diving Foundation is seeking applicants in two categories outlined below for its fifth annual Swimming and Diving Scholarship Program. The deadline for submission of applications is Friday, June 1st, 2007 (postmarked or emailed) . Students must supply 3 collated copies of their application for distribution to the scholarship review committee. Late entries will not be considered.
A $1,000 Scholar/Athlete scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior who is a swimmer/diver and Upper Dublin resident, not necessarily a student at Upper Dublin High School. Applicants must submit a one-page essay explaining why they feel they deserve the award. Applicants must also submit a recommendation from one of their swim coaches and also from a teacher in their high school. Applications should include name, address, phone number, high school GPA, along with any academic and/or athletic awards received. A copy of the applicant’s college acceptance letter should also be included.
A second $1,000 Leadership scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior who is a swimmer/diver and has demonstrated a leadership role; for example, a captain of his/her high school swim/diving team. The applicant must be a resident of Upper Dublin, though again, not necessarily a student at Upper Dublin High School. This award will focus on leadership characteristics. A one-page essay must be submitted explaining how the applicant has shown leadership of the swim team and also in another area, such as community service or volunteer work. Applicants need to address how they intend to continue to exhibit leadership characteristics in the future. Include name, address, phone number, high school, a recommendation from the high school swim coach and a recommendation from someone for whom they performed in a leadership position outside of swimming.
A third $1000 scholarship (often split between two recipients) for sportsmanship is presented by the UDSDF to honor recipients of the Jackie Shuman Award. The entire coaching staff of Upper Dublin High School chooses two candidates who best represent the intangible qualities a coach looks for in an athlete. The recipient is a team member who is concerned first and foremost with contributing to the team effort and, although not always a "star" player or the very best athlete on the team, is a person who maintains a positive attitude and always gives 100% toward the success of the team.
The award ceremony will take place on Monday, July 9th, 2007 at the Upper Dublin Aquatic Club C.J. Martin Relay Carnival, hosted by Manorlu Swim Club. Winners will be contacted prior to the event. The community is invited to attend the swim meet, which is held from 5 to 8 p.m.
To be considered, entries should be mailed no later than Friday, June 1st, 2007 to:
Ft. Washington, PA 19034
No special form is required. Entries and recommendations may also be emailed as a PDF or Word attachment to email@example.com
